Why Do I Need to Flush My Water Heater?

Reduced Efficiency

Sediment creates an insulating layer between the heating element and water, forcing the heater to work harder and increasing energy costs.

Shortened Heater Lifespan

Excessive sediment buildup puts stress on components, causing them to wear out faster and potentially leading to tank leaks or failure.

Risk of Tank Rupture

Uneven heating caused by sediment can weaken the tank, leading to cracks, leaks, or even ruptures that require costly replacements.

Increased Energy Costs

As the heater works harder to maintain water temperature, utility bills increase.

Clogged Valves and Pipes

Sediment can block the drain valve, making maintenance difficult, or travel into pipes, reducing water pressure or clogging fixtures.

Noisy Operation

Trapped water beneath the sediment turns to steam, causing popping, banging, or rumbling sounds during heating.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Does the Service Take?
The service duration depends on several factors, such as tank size, water pressure, drain valve flow rate, and sediment buildup. On average, the service time is as follows:
  • 30-40 Gallons: 45 minutes or less
  • 50-60 Gallons: 60 minutes or less
  • 60+ Gallons: 90 minutes
How Long Until I Have Hot Water Again?
Depending on the tank size and the capacity of the heating element, it may take up to 1.5 times the amount of time it took to flush the tank.
Do I Need to Be Home for the Service?
You do not need to be home for us to flush your water heater, but we recommend you be present for peace of mind. Either way, we won't take long. All of our services are recorded for quality control.
Are There Discounts for Multiple Water Heaters?
We offer discounts for 10 or more water heaters, with B2B options available for better pricing. To qualify for the discount, all water heaters must be in the same building (exceptions may apply).
If My Water Heater Is Old, Is It a Better Idea to Replace It or Flush It?
We recommend flushing the water heater even if it is old, as per the manufacturer's recommendations. Please consult your water heater's user manual for further clarification. If your water heater is more than 14 years old, we recommend an inspection to determine if it is better to replace it or if a flush would extend its working life.
